The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) jointly decided that the Indian cricket team will take part in the forthcoming ICC champions Trophy 2017 which is to be held in England from 1st June. The selection meeting to form a team for the ICC event will be held on 8th May, in New Delhi. It has planned to alleviate its former stand against the ICC and has therefore decided not to send any legal notice to the world body as a reconcilatory approach.
As per the recent press release by BCCI, the current joint secretary Amitabh Choudhary, who will be representing the BCCI, has been delegated the task of negotiating with the ICC while keeping its legal options active.
The news of Indian cricket team's participation in the ICC Champions Trophy and the selection meeting was confirmed by the Indian board.
According to Vinod Rai, head of committee of Administrators, it is a good move by the BCCI and that he had assured Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble that the team would travel but the process would be time consuming. His statement clearly indicated that the BCCI should focus on governance and not on revenue.
The ICC has welcomed the decision from the special general meeting at BCCI about the participation of Team India in the upcoming month's Champion Trophy. Millions of cricket lovers all across the globe are eagerly waiting to see a good performance in England and Wales starting 1st June.
In addition, Mr Amitabh Choudhary and CEO Rahul Johri, BCCI said that the decision of Indian team's participation in the Champions Trophy was unanimous and that no legal action would be taken in the matter.
Former president N Srinivasan attended the Special General Meeting but avoided speaking about a plug out after analyzing the overall sentiment.
The BCCI was contemplating to pull its team out premier tournament as a sign of protest against the revised revenues.
On Thursday, the COA (appointed by Supreme court) had directed the BCCI to summon a selection committee meeting and announce the Indian team for the ICC Champions Trophy on an immediate basis.
